Infrared Wavelengths
How Our Incandescent Bulbs Deliver the Full Infrared Spectrum
Most saunas on the market deliver infrared heat through one of two methods — far infrared carbon panels, or LED red light panels. The Indoor Sweat Box does something fundamentally different. Our custom incandescent red light bulbs emit a broad, continuous spectrum of infrared light that covers all three therapeutic ranges simultaneously — the same way the sun does.
Near Infrared (NIR) — 700 to 1,400 nm
Near infrared is the most energetic and deeply penetrating infrared wavelength. It passes through the skin and reaches deep into muscles, joints, connective tissue, and even bone. NIR light is absorbed directly by the mitochondria — the energy-producing centers of your cells — where it stimulates the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), your body's primary fuel source. This is the wavelength range most associated with red light therapy benefits: cellular repair, inflammation reduction, accelerated recovery, and improved circulation. Our incandescent bulbs deliver NIR as a core part of their continuous output, not as an isolated spike like LED panels.
Mid Infrared (MIR) — 1,400 to 3,000 nm
Mid infrared wavelengths penetrate the soft tissue layer just beneath the skin, targeting blood vessels, lymphatic tissue, and muscle fascia. This range is particularly effective for improving circulation, expanding blood vessels (vasodilation), and relieving chronic muscle tension and joint pain. MIR bridges the gap between the cellular stimulation of NIR and the deep heat of FIR — making it an essential part of a complete infrared session. Most LED saunas do not deliver MIR at all.
Far Infrared (FIR) — 3,000 nm to 1 mm
Far infrared wavelengths create the deep, enveloping warmth most people associate with the classic sauna experience. FIR raises your core body temperature gently and sustainably, triggering profuse sweating, activation of heat shock proteins, and the deep relaxation response. Our incandescent bulbs naturally emit far infrared as part of their full-spectrum output — and our certified low-EMF far infrared panels extend and deepen this range further, wrapping you in sustained therapeutic warmth throughout your session.
The Result: All Three Ranges, Every Session
When you sit in the Indoor Sweat Box, you are not receiving one or two wavelengths of light. You are receiving the complete infrared spectrum — NIR penetrating deep into your cells, MIR supporting your circulation and soft tissue, and FIR raising your core temperature and driving detoxification. This is what a full-spectrum infrared experience actually means.
How Hot Does It Get?
The Sweat Box Sauna features both Infrared Panels and Red Light Heat Bulbs that bring the internal temperature to 150° F. We have chosen to limit the temperature to 150° to ensure the safety of our users. Surpassing this temperature in an Infrared sauna can lead to dehydration and other health concerns. Due to the deep penetrating nature of infrared heat waves, the sauna will warm your body from within rather than just an external heat like most traditional saunas. This internal heating effect causes you to feel and sweat as if you are in 200°+ temperatures.
If you are looking for hotter temperatures please see our OUTDOOR SWEATBOX (Can also be used indoor) with temperatures reaching 180° F. Click here to view our Outdoor Sweatbox!
Incandescent Red Light Bulbs vs LED Red Light
Incandescent Red Light Bulbs vs LED Red Light
Why We Use Incandescent — and Why It Matters
Most saunas on the market today include "red light therapy" — but not all red light is the same. Here is a straightforward breakdown of the difference.
The Light Spectrum
Sweat Box (Incandescent Bulbs)
Our custom tungsten-filament bulbs emit a broad, continuous spectrum of light from 550–3,000+ nm — covering visible red, near-infrared (NIR), mid-infrared (MIR), and far-infrared (FIR). This closely mirrors the warmth of natural sunlight.
Typical LED Saunas
LED panels emit narrow, targeted bands of light — usually just two wavelengths: 660nm (red) and 850nm (near-infrared). Targeted, but incomplete.
Heat + Light: Two Separate Things vs. One Unified Experience
In an LED sauna, the heat and the red light come from two separate systems — they happen to run at the same time, but they are independent of one another.
In a Sweat Box sauna, every incandescent bulb delivers both heat therapy and light therapy simultaneously from the same source. Scientists call this photothermal synergy: the heat opens your blood vessels and increases circulation, while the light activates your mitochondria to use that increased oxygen more efficiently. The two amplify each other in ways that neither can achieve alone.
Flicker
LED lights can flicker due to how they respond to alternating electrical current. Even invisible flicker can be a subtle stressor during long sessions.
Incandescent bulbs maintain thermal inertia — the filament glows steadily with no pulsing. Smooth, uninterrupted light from start to finish.
EMF
LED panels contain electronics — drivers, controllers, sometimes wireless components — that generate electromagnetic fields close to your body.
Sweat Box incandescent bulbs produce certified low-EMF output below 2 milligauss, so your session is clean and uncompromised.

Sweat Box uses incandescent bulbs because we believe in delivering the full experience — not a fraction of it.
Materials - A Clean Sauna
A Clean Session — From the Wood to the Wavelengths
At Sweat Box, we believe a wellness product should deliver health benefits and nothing else. That means we are just as intentional about what our saunas are made of as we are about how they perform.
Low EMF — What It Means and Why It Matters
EMF stands for electromagnetic field — a form of radiation emitted by electrical devices. While low-level EMF is present in nearly every modern environment, concentrated and prolonged exposure during a daily sauna session is worth paying attention to.
Many LED red light panels contain integrated electronics — LED drivers, microcontrollers, and sometimes Bluetooth or wireless components — all positioned inches from your body for the duration of your session. These electronics generate electromagnetic fields that add up over time.
Our incandescent red light bulbs work differently. Because they operate through simple thermal emission — a filament heated to glow — they contain none of the electronic complexity of LED panels. Combined with our certified low-EMF far infrared panels, wire shielding, and grounding technology, the Indoor Sweat Box measures consistently below 2 milligauss (mG) of EMF output. For context, your average household appliances typically emit 2–400 mG depending on proximity. Our sauna, which you sit inside of, stays at or below 2 mG — giving you complete confidence that your session is clean from start to finish.
Unfinished Hemlock Wood — No Toxins, No Off-Gassing
The Indoor Sweat Box is built from high-quality hemlock wood that is sanded and left completely unfinished — no stains, no varnishes, no chemical sealants of any kind.
This is a deliberate choice. Many saunas on the market use wood that has been treated, stained, or coated with finishes that off-gas volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when heated. Inside a sauna, temperatures are elevated and your pores are open — the last thing you want is to be inhaling chemical fumes during a session designed to support your health.
Hemlock is naturally:
- Dimensionally stable — it holds its shape exceptionally well under repeated heat and humidity cycles
- Naturally resistant to decay — without needing chemical treatment
- Hypoallergenic — a low-resin wood that does not irritate sensitive skin or airways
- Odor-neutral when heated — producing a clean, mild natural wood scent rather than chemical off-gassing
When you step into a Sweat Box sauna, you are stepping into a clean, natural environment. The air you breathe is the air it should be — warm, pure, and free of anything that does not belong there.
Eco-Friendly Materials Throughout
Beyond the wood, Sweat Box is built using eco-friendly materials throughout the manufacturing process. We believe that a product built for your health should also be built with respect for the environment — and our manufacturing partners share that commitment.

Photothermal synergy — what happens when heat and light work as one
In a Sweat Box sauna, every incandescent bulb delivers both heat and red light simultaneously from the same source. The heat opens blood vessels and drives circulation — the light activates your mitochondria to use that increased oxygen more efficiently. The two amplify each other in a way neither can achieve alone.
One unified experience
Every bulb is simultaneously a heat source and a light therapy source. Heat and phototherapy happen from the same point of origin — the way sunlight works.
Two separate systems
The infrared heaters and LED panels operate independently. They run at the same time, but they are not unified — there is no synergistic interaction by design.
Flicker-free light
Incandescent bulbs maintain thermal inertia — the glowing filament produces smooth, continuous light with no pulsing. LED lights can flicker due to AC current cycling, which may act as a low-level stressor during extended sessions. Sweat Box delivers uninterrupted light from start to finish.
